Wed, 28 November 2007 By now you know I am a radio host who interviews dozens of people every
week on my radio show.
But do you know how many actually do those interviews well?
In fact, most radio and TV hosts hate interviewing authors! I know that hurts, but it's the truth. To help, I have put together a training program (it starts this Tuesday,
Dec. 2) designed to make you a great interview that media is excited to talk
to.
It's the most affordable class you will ever find for media coaching and
you will be completely finished in 2 weeks!
Please take a moment to see the details at:

Mon, 26 November 2007 Every week I keep my eyes open for an effective media release. Why this one caught my eye is because I could see it on many different styles of radio shows. It can be for the busy mom market...or the single men market...or the new college student market. Here it is: Shhhhhhhh.... don't tell anyone but there's a helpful site on the Internet that crawls the web to find recipes based on what's in your kitchen right now. That's right -- based on what's stashed in your fridge and in the corners of your cabinets. The name? Supercook.com, and it has a database of 250,000 recipes. Supercook locates recipes on the web and then tells you exactly how many recipes you can make altogether, broken down into 'Starters,' 'Entrees,' and 'Dessert' categories. All you have to do is simply list all the ingredients you have. It will also suggest other recipes that need one or two additional ingredients if you're willing to dash off to the corner store. Assaf Rozenblatt is the 27-year-old founder of Supercook.com. This Brooklyn, New York-based entrepreneur is also founder of a language search engine called Brainboost.com. Contact Assaf Rozenblatt at: Keep tuning in for other samples that I think do a great job of grabbing the eye of the media! Wayne Kelly The Radio Guy Comments[0] |

Wed, 21 November 2007 Today's podcast is about grabbing opportunities. If you want to become a household name as the expert in your field, you are going to have to say yes. Yes to helping out at conferences. Yes to speaking to small groups. Yes to opportunities you can't even see. www.WendyandWayne.com Comments[0] |
Mon, 19 November 2007 Everytime us radio hosts book a radio guest, we never know exactly how things will go with the guest when we are on air. Here is a wonderful surprise interview with Sondra Lowell the creator of boring films to put you to sleep. www.filmsleepy.com She called us at the Wayne and Jayne show...here's the interview. Wed, 14 November 2007 Being a radio host, I get the opportunity to talk about any topic I feel like talking about. I have found that the best way to really connect with my audience is to discuss the everyday topics that everyone can relate to. This is the secret to great interviews...be relatable to the audience and feel free to make em laugh. Wayne Kelly The Radio Guy!

Wed, 7 November 2007 In this edition of Wednesdays with Wendy & Wayne we share a very sad story about a woman who called the radio station trying to get publicity for her new book. I wish I could tell you this call was an exception, but calls like this happen almost weekly, and most authors don't even know that they are doing something wrong. Listen to this podcast now, because if you make this same mistake...you could get banned from media forever! Wendy and Wayne Comments[0] |
Wed, 7 November 2007 Come on, I dare you to guess where I found guest. No I wasn't pitched by a PR firm. No, it wasn't a long distance relative. No, I didn't even think of the topic Do you give up? Tue, 6 November 2007 I'm the radio guy with another example of the new way of doing media releases. They used to be called press releases but that term implies printing press, so I stress calling it a media release so you can use it for radio, TV, print, podcasts, and blogs Here's the media release I just received from Tim Ferris... and you know he only works with the best... ******************************************** Ferris is the author of the New York Times bestseller "The Ferris says you can enjoy the luxury of doing your own version Arrange this interview through Campbell Wharton:222-222-2222 ******************************************* the media really wants. Sat, 3 November 2007 I love sharing media coaching tips on this podcast but today I want to share a bit of the Wayne and Jayne show. Here's a 2 minute snippet of what I do in a typical morning. Wayne Kelly Comments[0] |
Sat, 3 November 2007 People often forget that the most import piece in your publicity puzzle is people. Treat everyone well and you will stand out. Isn't it said that we even have to talk about treating people well. You'd be amazed at the number of people who contact a producer and come across like the media owes them something because they just released a new book. Wed, 31 October 2007 When it comes to doing a successful interview, prep work is key! Susan Reid wanted an interview for her website so she contacted me. She studied my On Air Publicity Interview Manual, She created a media release and media page from my easy top follow samples and our first interview was a home run. If she didn't study and just decided to wing it, I can guarantee it wouldn't have been so smooth. Take a listen to a first time interview by Susan Reid. Thu, 25 October 2007 I am on a bit of a survey kick this week. I found another surevy I want to share with you. You can do a survey anywhere and share the results with the media. Take a listen. Wayne Kelly The Radio Guy! Comments[0] |
Tue, 23 October 2007 Here is a survey we had fun with on the radio today. According to a magazine survey: Miami and San Diego have America’s most attractive people. Where are the ugly people? According to the same survey: The city of Philadelphia has America’s least attractive people. Philadelphia was also found to be among the least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldly. I called Dawn in Philly and got her reaction to this survey! Wayne Kelly The Radio Guy! Mon, 22 October 2007 As a radio host and producer I am constantly being pitched guest and story ideas. Every Monday I will share my favorite pitch from the week. Here's the Radio Guy's pick-o-the-week: Mike Slosberg is not giving in to old age. He's fighting back -- with poetry. The ancient Japanese kind, of course, called Haiku. His book called Pimp My Walker: The Official Book of Old Age Haiku is brimming with 60 poems. So how , you ask, can a poem fight arthritis or bring back memory? Well, actually it can't -- but the ones Slosberg pulled together are packed with humor and have turned old age into an art form. Check these out:
I love the simplicity of this media release and I am a huge fan of short and sweet! Wayne Kelly The Radio Guy! www.onairpublicity.com Comments[0] |
Mon, 15 October 2007 Today after my radio show I was on my way to a
coffee shop, to write something wise for this blog, when I was repeatedly stopped by strangers asking, “Who was the
lady on the radio this morning? And she said that if you have a to-do list of 25 or more things that have to get done—well burn it, ’cause you will never get it done! (ALECIA GAVE LISTENERS THE PERMISION TO STOP FEELING LIKE FAILAURES EVERYDAY THAT THEY DON’T GET THE LIST DONE.) Everyone in the radio station is now walking around saying, “You’re HOT or “You’re a GENIUS, and smiling. And this is all because of Alecia’s great interview where she talked to the listeners’ like she was talking to her girlfriends in a bar! My final words are: It always comes back to how well you do the interview and how you interact with the audience. Wayne Kelly The Radio Guy! Sun, 14 October 2007 The view is a HOT TV show. There is no way around it. Women love talking about...in fact now with Woopi Goldberg on the show...their ratings are even higher. Here's an example of a piggyback. I took the title and changed it for my radio show. I simply called it Women's View and then had 2 women give us their view on whatever topics I come up with. It's a great way of building show bits because the listener is already familiar with the concept. Listeners never want to think too hard in the morning. They are busy. Mon, 8 October 2007 As a media coach, I see too many people spending time working on the wrong things. The number one key to be asked back on a radio show is: Being great on the air! Listen to how comfortable William Lamb was as a first time guest on my radio show. Thanks Wayne Kelly Comments[0] |
Sun, 7 October 2007 As a real life morning radio host, I never have a shortage of great stories about successful interviews. On the other side of the coin I also have many disastrous stories about people who blew an opportunity for media exposure. Last week on my radio show, Comedian Sean Morey did something that every guest would be wise to do. It's a great way to get extended time on the radio which means more free publicity for you!
